About Baker Candies
Established in 1921 by Louis D. Bracracheff, a young immigrant, from Aegean Macedonia, we are now a third generation family business.
Our clients and customers are also third generation and have grown with us. We have enjoyed serving the Collinwood and greater Cleveland communities for 87 years, and we take pride in the fact that at Bakers quality always comes first.
Mr. Baker started at the corner of Lexington Ave. and E. 55th Street. He was the second largest wholesaler in the city selling his chocolates to such stores as May Company, Highbees, Nut Hut and Nut Kitchen. In 1945 the city built a new street and he had to make a move to 16131 Holmes Ave., our present location in the Collinwood community.
For the last 62 years our chocolates are still made in copper pots, on marble tables and then are run on the "Lucy" machine. Remember Lucy and Ethel taking candy off the enrober? Our Famous Whipped Egg recipe is written in Macedonian which few speak and even fewer can write, so we hope our secret is safe.
In 1962, Mr. Baker retired and business went to Chris and Zorka Alusheff, niece of Mr. Baker. They worked together until 1986 when the business went to their three children, Kathy Galgoczy, Vicky Glavinos, and Tasho Alusheff. Today, Baker Candies is run by Kathy Galgoczy and John Grubb.
Our chocolates, trays and baskets make wonderful gifts for family, friends and business associates. We'd love feedback from you so feel free to call us at 1-800-743-7779, fax 216-451-7780 or email to info@bakercandies.com.
